Austral Hotel Colac
One of the largest and more popular pubs in the western district town of Colac, the Austral Hotel, is said to date back to the 1880s when it first opened as the Brewers Arms. The Art Nouveau-styled building that still stands today dates to 1904, which is when the pub got its name, the Austral Hotel. Despite many renovations over the years, including the addition of a TAB, drive-through bottle shop, pokies, and a nightclub, the building has not lost any of its charm. Several extensions have been added over the years, blending in seamlessly.
In recent years, the interior has had a makeover, with the main bar and bistro’s 1980s decor giving way to a modern rustic feel with exposed brickwork and timber flooring. The Austral Hotel continues to be a beloved fixture in Colac, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.
