Handorf Inn

Handorf Inn SA

If you have ever taken a drive through the Adelaide Hills, you may have come across a small town with the very German sounding name of Hahndorf. Hahndorf was originally settled by Lutheran immigrants from Prussia and when they built the town, much of the style of architecture had a very German look about it. Many of these German style buildings still stand in the town, and one of the most popular is the Hahndorf Inn.

Established in 1863, the Hahndorf Inn capitalises on the town’s German heritage and serves plenty of German style fare and beers. A few of their signature dishes include a 1-metre-long Char Grilled Bratwurst served with two pretzels, sauerkraut and veg as well as a 1-meter-long hot dog.

If extra long sausage is not your style, there are a variety of other sausages dishes, including a six sausage sample plate that can serve 2 people. If sausages and porky things are not your thing, then there are quite a few other items on the menu, including a great range of steaks.

On tap are quite a few German style beers, you can even order a 1 litre stein if you are really thirsty; or perhaps you may need a litre of beer after eating your 1-metre sausage, if this is the case you will receive a free souvenir t-shirt.

Hahndorf is located around 30 minutes drive South East of Adelaide in South Australia, just off the South Eastern Freeway. The Handorf Inn is one of many businesses in the town embracing the heritage of the last German village in Australia. The small town is very popular with tourists, especially on weekends.
