The Classic Caesar Salad
For those watching the waist line a salad is always a good choice and the Classic Caesar would be the most popular pick on pub menus around the world. Crisp lettuce, tangy parmesan cheese, crisp croutons, some crispy pan fried bacon and that delicious Caesar dressing. Many have anchovies and the soft poached egg, while adding shredded chicken to the salad has become very popular lately. Some believe the Caesar salad dates back to ancient Roman times but that’s not quite the story, in-fact far from it. The salad originates from the US city of San Diego where a restaurateur Caesar Cardini invented the dish in 1924 out of pretty much scraps to feed his guests, his salad consisted of lettuce, a lightly poached egg, and an olive oil dressing. The salad became popular after the war and has gone from strength to strength ever since and is one of the world’s most popular salad dishes.
